Article: Top 10 Greatest Children Films of All Time Volume 2

Firstly, I know The Guardian which Newspaper of the year did their own version of Top 50 (can be found here). But this is my own version, so I put my own spin of this category.

10.Yogi Bear (Ages 1 – 5)

A documentary filmmaker travels to Jellystone Park to shoot a project and soon crosses paths with Yogi Bear, his sidekick Boo – Boo and Ranger Smith. This will divide people as some will like this and some don’t, for me personally it’s Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake vocal that made this film good, it is well casted and it has got an easy-to-follow story, it is funny and this is well – made.

9.Herbie Fully Loaded (Ages 6 – 9)

Maggie Peyton, the new owner of Herbie, Number 53, the free-wheeling Volkswagen bug with a mind of its own, puts the car through its paces on the road to becoming a NASCAR competitor. An underdog type of film which is a crowd pleaser, the acting is totally believable and it about never giving up, people will connect with that message and the main lead is likeable, this is a superb film.

8.The Haunted Mansion (Ages 10 – 12)

A realtor and his wife and children are summoned to a mansion, which they soon discover is haunted, and while they attempt to escape, he learns an important lesson about the family he has neglected. For me personally this film has the balance right of the darker element mixed in with the comedy aspect, it certainly works as this is entertaining from start to finish, the CGI/SFX is amazing and it got stunning set pieces, overall, this is pure escapism and it is a rainy-day film.

7.Homeward Bound /1993 – 1996/ (Ages 6 – 9)

Shadow, Sassy, and Chance are back. It’s been three years since their trek through the woods and over mountains. Now their owners live in San Francisco and are taking a vacation in Canada. There’s only one problem, the pets escape from the airport while being put in the cargo hold of the plane. With stunning scenery and it also got a beautiful tale of friendship, these films are memorable and this is cute and heartwarming, it is watchable and it slowly drawn you in as these are timeless classic, if you wanted a perfect animal film this is ideal for you.

6.Pinocchio /2022 Disney Plus/ (Ages 6 – 9)

A puppet is brought to life by a fairy, who assigns him to lead a virtuous life in order to become a real boy. Eye catching film with great visual and that made the dark element less scary, the film itself look gorgeous and the pacing is spot on and it got a brilliant cast. The ending is fantastic and this is watchable from start to finish, for me personally this is so underrated as this is a superbly made.

5.City Of Ember (Ages 10 – 12)

For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights. But Ember’s once powerful generator is failing and the great lamps that illuminate the city are starting to flicker. One of the best adventure films and with two likeable leads, some of the film can be slightly darker but it has got a beautiful story, this is eye catching and this is well casted, it is one of those film that is memorable and for me personally this is underrated.

4.The Jungle Book (Ages 1 – 5)

Bagheera the Panther and Baloo the Bear have a difficult time trying to convince a boy to leave the jungle for human civilization. Colourful and an old-fashioned type of film with catchy tunes, this is a timeless classic that you can revisit as this is an inoffensive film, it is joyous and uplifting at the same time, it is cute and heartwarming as this is pure escapism and a rainy-day type of film.

3.The Secret Garden (Ages 6 – 9)

A young, recently – orphaned girl is sent to England after living in India all of her life. Once there, she begins to explore her new, seemingly – isolated surroundings, and its secret. My childhood film as I watched this film while I grow up, the acting is brilliant and totally believable and the story is spot on, it will slowly draw you in and it is a beautiful film, overall, this is silently powerful.

2.Toy Story/ 1995 – 2019/ (Ages 1 – 5)

Toy story is about the secret life of toys when people are not around and go on many adventures, they meet colourful characters along the way. All of these films are consistent and them are exciting and it got great characters, the vocal in these films is amazing and brim with comic one liner, it will made you smile as this is joyous and uplifting, these films are likeable and enjoyable.

 1.Big Hero 6 (Ages 10 – 12)

A special bond develops between plus – sized inflatable robot Baymax and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who together team up with a group of friends to form a band of high – tech heroes. Personally I connect with his film as it about life and friends and families who be there for you, this film reminded me of my brother and this is a beautiful coming of age film, it might be sad but this is generally funny and it is funny, it is heartwarming and it will moved you and it will leave you a lasting impression on you, this one of the best animation film and this is brilliant.

  1. Wow! Two volumes of one category in 2 days. This must be a favourite genre of yours. For me, the best children’s films have 2 characteristics:
    1. They put a child/children at the centre of an adventure
    2. There are things in the film that appeal to adults as well, so they can be viewed again from different age perspectives.
    There is some crossover with your selections, but these are my top 10:
    School of Rock
    Shrek series
    Toy Story series
    Jungle Book (the original Disney cartoon)
    Home Alone (only the first 2)
    The Goonies
    E.T.
    Big
    The Never Ending Story
    Honey I shrunk The Kids

  2. You are so right with these category, there are some good choices in your top ten, I haven’t seen ET and The Never Ending Story, I will keep my eyes out of these two films
