Mini Film Review Volume 71

The Nice Guys

In 1970s Los Angeles, a mismatched pair of private eyes investigate a missing girl and the mysterious death of a porn star. Firstly, I wanted to like this and the idea behind this film is superb, but unfortunately the chemistry between Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling isn’t quite there, this isn’t laugh out loud funny as it takes itself too seriously, it isn’t much fun as it supposes to be, the pacing isn’t there as it doesn’t hold your interest, it just doesn’t really work.

65 (2023)

After a catastrophic crash, pilot Mills quickly discovers he’s actually stranded on an unknown planet. Now, with only one chance at rescue, Mills must make his way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures in an epic fight to survive. It is one of those film which has got great potential, the thing is this feel rather forced and it not as character driven as it should be, I just feel in general the film itself is running out of idea despite the story is spot on, it could have been a brilliant film but it doesn’t deliver.

Identity (2003)

Stranded at a desolate Nevada motel during a nasty rainstorm, ten strangers become acquainted with each other when they realize that they’re being killed off one by one. A well-made film with a great story and the idea is there, for me personally it’s the twist which I didn’t think much off and the ending is rather odd, it also lacking the psychological edge to this film and for me personally it needed it, it could have been a genuinely spooky film and with these flaws it just doesn’t really work, that is a real shame as this got great potential.

What’s Love Got To Do With It? (2022)

In London, an award – winning film – maker documents her best friend’s journey into an assisted marriage in line with his family’s Pakistani heritage. In the process, she challenges her own attitude toward relationships. A likeable film with great chemistry between Lily James and Shazad Latif, it can be rather funny in some places and Asim Chaudhry is hilarious in his role, the start of this film started well but it falters in the midsection and it never recover, it still an enjoyable film despite not as memorable as it should be, overall, this is a well – made film.

Knock At The Cabin

While vacationing, a girl and her parents are taken hostage by armed strangers who demand that the family make a choice to avert the apocalypse. Character driven type of film and you will care about with these characters, the twist is clever and excellent and this is totally unpredictable. If you get past the brutal element this is a beautiful film with an LGBTQ aspect, for me personally it does work and the film itself feel rather rushed from the start, the acting is amazing and they all convince in their roles, this is thought provoking and this is a superb film.

Back To The Outback

Tired of being locked in a reptile house where humans gawk at them like they’re monsters, a group of Australia’s deadliest creatures plot a daring escape from their zoo to the Outback. For me personally this is a major surprised, it got great characters and this is certainly memorable and the vocal in this film is superb, it got an emotional core to this film and this is relatable as the moral is appearances, I personally connect with that with message and the animation itself look gorgeous, it can feel a little hyperactive in certain places and the soundtrack can be slightly annoying, this is suitable for all ages and a family viewing and it will move you.
