Mini Film Reviews Volume 73

Five best friends have the night of their lives seeing their favourite boy band in concert. Twenty – five years later, their lives have changed in many different ways as they reunite for one more epic show by their beloved bands, to relight their friendship and discover that maybe their greatest days are ahead of them. Firstly, this film has got a brilliant story with a brilliant soundtrack, but unfortunately it gets rather weird and surreal and it doesn’t need that. The pacing isn’t quite there and this isn’t relatable, this have got great potential and for me personally it just doesn’t deliver at all.

Benji (2018)

Two school kids strike up a friendship with an orphaned puppy named Benji. When danger befalls them and they end up kidnapped by robbers who are in over their heads, Benji and his scruffy sidekick come to the rescue. The casting for this film is spot on and the acting in generally is superb and it can be funny, the thing is there isn’t much backstory and it not quite a feel-good experience, it not as fun as it supposes to be but this is still well made, despite with those flaws this isn’t a bad film.

Oliver & Company

A homeless kitten named Oliver, roams the streets of New York, where he is taken in by a gang of homeless mutts who survive by stealing from others. During one of these criminal acts, Oliver meets a wealthy young girl named Jenny Foxworth. This meeting will forever change his life. An old-fashioned type of film which is funny and with cute animals, the soundtrack is amazing and the animation itself is gorgeous to look at, for me personally this isn’t the best Disney film as it not quite as charming as it should be, the villain isn’t as memorable but despite that this is still a good animation film.

 The Exorcist

When a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life. Once the film gets going this is convincing and believable and the story is fantastic, the acting is amazing and this is intriguing. Some of the flaws are the first 40 minutes of this film doesn’t really gel or flow together, it hasn’t got that psychological edge to this film and not enough jump scares, but despite that this is a slow burner film and this is memorable.

Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story

Biography of Ben Carson who grew up to be Dr Ben Carson, a world-famous neurosurgeon at John Hopkins. Personally, the flashback element does work perfectly as this is character driven. Cuba Gooding Jr is amazing as the main lead and this is well casted, this is a film that made for television and this is surprisingly a good film, I just think in general the midsection falters just a little bit but it recovers well, if you wanted a good true story film this is ideal for you.

Otto Baxter: Not A F**king Horror Story

Filmmaker Otto Baxter, a 35-year-old man with Down’s Syndrome. Offers up a glimpse behind the camera as he directs “The Puppet Asylum” a horror musical loosely – influenced by his own life. A documentary that touch my heart, I personally connect with this documentary as it about life and overcome many obstacles, this is funny and heartwarming and this documentary try to be something different which I admire, it might be heartbreaking in some places and in some ways this is uplifting and it is heartfelt, it doesn’t feel forced or too sentimental as this is powerful and it will move you, this is one of the best documentary.
