10.Spirited Away

During her family’s move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches and spirits, a world where humans are changed into beasts. Underneath the weirdness and the surreal moment, there is a beautiful coming of age film which like you go on a journey with the main lead, the pacing is perfect as it does hold your interest, despite of the darker element in this film it still draws you in, the story is spot on as this is superb.

9.The Mitchells Vs The Machines

A quirky, dysfunctional family’s road trip is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity’s unlikeliest last hope. Could be on the verve of rather full on for some people, some of the elements are coming of age aspect and for me personally it certainly works, this is fun and entertaining at the same time, it is enjoyable.

8.Moana

In ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the demigod Maui reaches Moana’s island, she answers the ocean’s call to seek out Maui to set things right. Being a musical, this will divide people as some will like this and some don’t, at the start of this film it like a coming-of-age film, it also a diversity type of film and that is important, this is light-hearted as this film is cute and fun.

7.The Lion King

Lion prince Simba and his father are targeted by his bitter uncle, who wants to ascend the throne himself. A childhood favourite of mine and in some ways, this is the ultimate coming of age film, the soundtrack is generally catchy and the animation itself is amazing, it could be on the verge of too sentimental and rather forced for some people, despite that this it has got great characters.

 6.Tangled

The magically long – haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is. Feminism type of film which is important, it like a coming-of-age tale from the female perspective and that is refreshing, there are some nice moments in this film, it is heartwarming.

5.Only Yesterday

A twenty-seven-year-old office worker travels to the countryside while reminiscing about her childhood in Tokyo. Diversity type of film which is important, this is silently powerful and this is a beautiful coming of age tale, you will care about with these characters and this is one of the best Studio Ghibli films, it never feels too forced or too sentimental, this film will touch people heart.

4.Wendell & Wild

Two scheming demon brothers, Wendell and Wild, enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot to summon them to the Land of the Living. The thing is with this film it could be slightly full on with certain people, if you get past that, it has got a multilayered story and it got theme of a coming-of-age film, this is certainly memorable from start to finish, it will move you as this is powerful.

3.The Book Of Life

Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart, embarks on an adventure that spans three fantastic worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Personally, this film wowed me as this is surprisingly good at the start of this film, it like a coming-of-age film that blended in well with the fantasy element, it can be generally funny and the ending is clever and smart, the idea behind this film is excellent as this is superb.

2.Inside Out

After young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness – conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school. Everything about this film ticked all the boxes as the idea to this film is brilliant, it like a coming-of-age film that will move you, it will move you and it is relatable for people, this is enjoyable.

1.Big Hero 6

A special bond develops between plus – sized inflatable robot Baymax and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who together team up with a group of friends to form a band of high – tech heroes. One of those film that made you appreciated of families and friends, I connect with that message myself and I’m sure people will connect with that, this is funny and heartfelt at the same time, this is one of my personal favourites coming of age film, this is suitable for all ages and a family viewing.

  1. The only ones that I have seen across your two volumes are Kubo and Toy Story, and I enjoyed these.

    The only two that I have seen that I can add are:

    Alice In Wonderland (1951)

    The Sword in the Stone (1963) – about the boyhood of King Arthur
