Mini Film Reviews Volume 82

The Green Knight

On Christmas Day, before the noble King Arthur and his loyal Knights of the Round Table, an Excalibur – wielding Sir Gawain, the ruler’s nephew, takes up a challenge a priori impossible: travel to the remote Green Chapel and face its ghastly lord. Personally, I admire this film that try to be something different, it has got stunning scenery in this film. But unfortunately, it doesn’t draw you in as much, plus the ending is slightly weak and it also hard to get into with this film, with these flaws it could have been something special but this isn’t.

Maestro

This love story chronicles the lifelong relationship of conductor – composer Leonard Bernstein and actress Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. Firstly, I wanted to like this film and it has got a fantastic story, it is well casted despite it has got a lot of flashback and it try to be overcomplicated, it also missing the emotional aspect as it hard to connect with this film, it has got great potential and that is a real shame, for me personally this film doesn’t really deliver.

Show Dogs

Max, a macho, solitary Rottweiler police dog is ordered to go uncover as a primped show dog in a prestigious Dog Show, along with his human partner, to avert a disaster from happening. One of those that will divide people as some will like this and some don’t, the vocal talent is spot on as this can be funny in some places, not all the film work as it doesn’t gel or flow together as much, it can feel rather safe, despite that this is watchable and easy to follow.

The Road To El Dorado

Two swindlers get their hands on a map to the fabled city of gold, El Dorado, while pulling off some sort of scam. Their plan goes bad and the rogues end up lost at sea after several misfortunes. Gorgeous looking animation film with a fantastic story, the characters are great and the vocal is spot on, it struggles with the balance of the darker element of the lighter aspect, it also doesn’t gel or flow together as much, but despite that this is easy to follow.

The Beautiful Game

Advocates to end homelessness, organize an annual tournament for Homeless men to compete in a series of football matches known as The Homeless World Cup. If you being patience with this film this is character driven, it is well casted and the acting in general is amazing, the only thing with this film is the pacing as it is slightly off, it might not be groundbreaking but this film is enjoyable.

Spoiler Alert

The story of Michael Ausiello and Kit Cowan’s relationship, while takes a tragic turn when Cowan is diagnosed with terminal cancer. This is one of those film that never feel too sentimental or rather forced, the chemistry between Jim Parsons and Ben Aldridge is superb. The acting is superb and it will leave you a lasting impression on you, this is relatable and it will touch people heart, it also didn’t take itself too seriously and it can be slightly surreal in places, if you get past that this is a beautiful film and it will move you at the same time.
