Mini Film Reviews Volume 90

Daddio

A woman taking a cab ride from JFK engages in a conversation with the taxi driver about the important relationships in their lives. Personally, I like the idea behind this film and the acting is superb, for me personally this film is hard to get into and it doesn’t draw you in. it feels a bit unexplained as it leave you with unanswered questions, I don’t want to be too harsh on this film as the story is there, in general this film doesn’t really work and that is a real shame.

The Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants

Four best girlfriends hatch a plan to stay connected with one another as their lives start off in different directions: they pass around a pair of second-hand jeans that fits each of their bodies perfectly. Feminism type of film which is important and I like the theme of coming of age, some of the elements does work perfectly, but unfortunately this feel rather forced and too sentimental. It doesn’t feel relatable and it hard to care for these characters, it has got great potential but for me personally it doesn’t deliver.

Joyride (2022)

A headstrong solicitor’s plan to offload her newborn baby to her sister, is derailed when a vulnerable but opinionated teenager steals their taxi. The chemistry between Olivia Colman and Charlie Reid is superb, the story and the scenery are outstanding and this is an all-British film. With this film it does leave you unanswered answers, it doesn’t gel or flow together as much but despite that it still watchable.

Arthur The King

An adventure racer named Michael adopts a stray dog named Arthur to join him in an epic endurance race. Quietly powerful as this doesn’t feel too forced or too sentimental, the acting is amazing and it certainly one of the best Mark Wahlberg films, the scenery looks amazing as it does draw you in despite of the pacing issues, in general this film is heartfelt and watchable.

Fatherhood

A father brings up his baby girl as a single dad after the unexpected death of his wife who died a day after their daughter’s birth. Some people will like this and some don’t as this will divide people, it is easy to watch and by the end of this film you will care about with these characters. The first half of this film doesn’t gel or flow together as much, but despite that this is fun and joyous plus this is heartwarming and easy to follow.

Quartet

At a home for retired musicians, the annual concert to celebrate Composer Giuseppe Verdi’s birthday is disrupted by the arrival of Jean an eternal diva and the former wife of one of the residents. Calming type of film as this is heartwarming and heartfelt, it also a feel-good experience which you needed. It will made you smile as this is generally funny, it got that emotional aspect and you will care about with these characters, overall, this is a beautiful film.

  1. I have seen The Quartet and agree with your review.

I like the sound of Arthur the King and will look out for it.

Have you seen The Critic? Ian McKellan relishes hamming it up as a villain.
