Mini Film Reviews Volume 92

Bob Marley: One Love

The story of how reggae icon Bob Marley overcome adversity, and the journey behind his revolutionary music. Firstly, the story is great as the pacing is spot on. The acting is reasonable as the flashback element never gets too overcomplicated, this isn’t as inspirational as it should be and the film itself is hard to connect with, for me personally this feels rather safe and too predictable, this has got great potential but for me personally it didn’t quite deliver.

Pig (2021)

A truffle hunter who lives alone in the Oregon wilderness must return to his past in Portland in search of his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped. I admire this film that tries to be something different, the idea behind this film is superb. But unfortunately the pacing is rather off as it doesn’t hold your interest, it is one of those film that is hard to get into and the violence can be rather brutal, I wanted to like this but I thought this is a letdown.

The Marvels

Carol Danvers get her powers entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, forcing them to work together to save the universe. Feminism type of superhero film which is refreshing, the visual is outstanding and eye catching at the same time. The thing is with this film it feels rather rushed and the villain isn’t as memorable, for me personally the Bollywood element doesn’t really work, despite that it didn’t take itself too seriously and this is fun.

In The Land Of Saints And Sinners

A disillusioned hitman comes out of retirement for one last job when an IRA bomber on the run from the law arrives in his sleepy Irish village. Too be honest with you I was surprised with this film as this is good, it like a slow burner type of film which is generally powerful. It has got a superb end as I reckon it will surprise people, the only thing is with this film the pacing is slightly off, but overall if you wanted a good thriller this is ideal for you.

Hidden Figures

Three female African – American mathematicians play a pivotal role in astronaut John Glenn’s launch into orbit. Meanwhile, they also have to deal with racial and gender discrimination at work. Diversity film which is important as this is a sensitive topic for people, the acting is amazing and the three main leads has got superb chemistry together, it tries to be uplifting despite of the racial and gender element, it will move you as this is silently powerful.

Will & Harper

In this intimate portrayal of friendship, transition and America, Will Ferrell and his close friend of thirty years decide to go on a cross – country road trip to explore a new chapter in their relationship. A beautiful road trip documentary that close to my heart, it about appearances and the friendship aspect. For me personally I connect with this as this is life – affirming, it will leave you a lasting impression on you, it is sad but funny and uplifting at the same time. It has got some nice moment in this documentary, this is touching and moving.
