Mini Film Reviews Volume 101

The Boy And The Heron

In the wake of his mother’s death and his father’s remarriage, a headstrong boy ventures into a dreamlike world shared by the living and the dead in search of his missing stepmother. I’m a massive Anime fan so I thought this would be good, the story is fantastic and this is eye catching. But unfortunately this tries to be too overcomplicated, it lacks the charm and there too many different ideas in this film, this has got great potential but it didn’t quite deliver.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

When Jacob discovers clues to a mystery that stretches across time, he finds Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. But the danger deepens after he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers. Gorgeous looking film that will draw you in. it has got an all star cast and they all convince in their roles, the first halves of this film is superb but it loses it way, it also takes itself too seriously plus lacks the charm, this is a shame as I wanted to like it.

My Penguin Friend

A heartbroken fisherman finds a penguin drifting alone in the ocean, drenched in Oil from a spill. He not only rescues the sea creature, but takes it under his wing, finding a sense of joy for the first time in years. Easy to watch type of film with a good cast. This is quietly powerful and I like the unlikely friendships aspect, it can feel rather safe and slightly predictable. It also doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh, despite that the story itself is beautiful, this is still a good film.

Yara (2021)

A determined prosecutor becomes consumed with the case of a missing 13-year-old and goes to extreme lengths to get the truth. Based on a real case. Having watched this film I thought wowed. It will move you as this is silently powerful, it is well casted and they all convince in their roles, the only thing is this can feel slightly overcomplicated, despite that this is intriguing.

Wimbledon (2004 Film)

Peter, an out of form tennis player, gets a chance to play in the Wimbledon tournament. As he comes across Lizzie, an upcoming player, his game improves significantly. For me personally this is my type of genre, this could be rather sentimental and rather forced for some people. the two lead have got superb chemistry together. It is an underdog type of film and it will made you smile, the only thing is it doesn’t gel or flow together as much, overall if you wanted a feel-good type of film this ideal for you.

The Three Musketeers: Milady

Constance Bonacieux is kidnapped before D’Artagnan’s very eyes. In a frantic quest to save her, the young musketeer, aided by Athos, Porthos and Aramis, is forced to join forces with the mysterious Milady de Winter. Just breathtaking as this never feel too over the top, that is the key to this film. it not your typical Hollywood type of film and that is refreshing, it could have been a five-star film but it didn’t gel or flow together as much, this is still a good film.
