One of those film that will divide people. the villain is certainly memorable and the film itself can be funny in places, it ticked all the boxes of personal growth, identity and the challenges of navigating both the real and the magical worlds, it is eye catching from start to finish, if you wanted a pure escapism type of film this is ideal.
9.The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising
A boy’s life is turned upside down when he learns that he is the last of a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the dark. A mixture of identity, personal growth and the challenges of navigating both the real and the magical worlds, it delves deep with the mythological aspect, it will slowly draw you in from the start. It like a multilayered story that involve with the time travel element, I reckon it will surprise many people.
8.A Boy Called Christmas
In this origin story of Father Christmas, an ordinary boy with a loyal pet mouse and a reindeer at his side sets out on an extraordinary adventure to find his father. With a mixture of coming of age and the fantasy elements. That made this a coming-of-age fantasy film, the story is beautiful and this is silently powerful, it is eye catching from start to finish, this is an underrated film.
7.Mowgli: Legend Of The Jungle
A human child raised by wolves must face off against a menacing tiger named Shere Khan, as well as his own origins. It has got an all star cast and they all convince in their roles. It deals with identity, the coming-of-age aspect and the fantasy elements, so technically this is a coming-of-age fantasy film, it has got stunning scenery and it will draw you in, it will surprise many people.
6.The Water Man
A boy sets out on a quest to save his ill mother by searching for a mythic figure said to have magical healing powers. Diversity adventure film which is important. it blended the fantasy, coming of age and the adventure elements, that made this a coming-of-age fantasy film, it will move you as this is quietly powerful, once you watch this you will always remember this.
5.Pan’s Labyrinth
In 1944 Spain, a girl is sent to live with her ruthless stepfather. During the night, she meets a fairy who takes her to an old faun. He tells her she’s a princess, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. Period and gothic type of film which is slowly draws you in. It a mixture of fantasy, personal growth and the coming-of-age aspect, it might be subtitle but it still an intriguing film, the acting is convincing and totally believable, this is surprisingly good.
4.Narnia (2005 – 2010)
While playing, Lucy and her siblings find a wardrobe that lands them in a mystical place called Narnia. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy go on many adventures and battling enemies. We see the journey with the four main leads in these films. The magical world element with the coming-of-age aspect that made these films a coming-of-age fantasy films, it got that historical edge and that is important, it is entertaining and watchable, these films are consistent.
3.Pinocchio (Guillermo Del Toro)
A father’s wish magically brings a wooden boy to life in Italy, giving him a chance to care for the child. You will always remember this film as this is memorable. It deals with loss, grief and identity plus with the fantasy element, this is a coming-of-age fantasy movie and it is beautiful, it will move you and it will touch people heart, the story, the scenery is spot on as this is heartfelt.
2.Kubo And The Two Strings
A young boy named Kubo must locate a magical suit of armour worn by his late father in order to defeat a vengeful spirit from the past. Personal growth, the coming-of-age aspect and the fantasy world, it a mixture of a coming-of-age fantasy movie. The scenery and the story itself are perfect for this film, the ending will move you as this is silently powerful, it will touch people heart.

Conor, a twelve-year-old boy, encounters an ancient tree monster who proceeds to help him cope with his mother’s terminal illness and being bullied in school. Quietly this film will leave you a lasting impression on you, it deals with grief, the coming-of-age aspect and the fantasy element. This is the ultimate coming of age fantasy movie, the acting is amazing and totally believable. This doesn’t feels forced or too sentimental, overall, this film is relatable.
