Mini Film Review Volume 114

Black Bag (2025)

When intelligence agent Kathryn Woodhouse is suspected of betraying the nation, her husband – also a legendary agent – faces the ultimate test of whether to be loyal to his marriage, or his country. I admire this film that try to be something different. It has got an all star cast and the story is good, but unfortunately this film is overstuffed with too many ideas, also it too overcomplicated with this film. I personally couldn’t get into with this film; I wanted to like this film as I like the genre itself, for me personally this is a letdown.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

Two teenage friends find a magical book along with a Ventriloquist dummy at an abandoned house. Later, when they bring the dummy home, it comes to life and wreaks havoc in a small town. Cool looking CGI/SFX that made this film eye catching. The story is there but I just feel it lacks the charm, the laughs seem forced and the film itself lacks a bit of the emotional aspect, it got some potential with this film, with these flaws it didn’t quite reach the height.

Harriet

A plantation owner promises to free a slave family. However, when he fails to be true to his words, a girl from the family escapes and becomes an abolitionist. Fantastic scenery and with a good story for this film. The acting is pretty good and it will draw you in, overall, this film is weird and surreal which you don’t expected in a true story type of film, the pacing is slightly off and it didn’t quite gel, despite that this is a pretty good slow burner type of film.

Last Breath (2025)

A true story that follows seasoned deep – sea divers as they battle the raging elements to rescue their crew mate trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean’s surface. Being based on a true story it pays respect to those people behind this film. The acting is believable and totally convincing, the underwater sequence is genuinely exciting, this try to be more of a documentary than a proper film. It also doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh, it can feel too safe and too predictable, despite that this is a well-made film.

The Woman In Black 2: Angel Of Death

40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, a group of children evacuated from WWII London arrives, awakening the house’s darkest inhabitant. Don’t judge this film on the reviews of this film. It silently creeps you under your skin as it got that psychological elements, it got twists and turns in this film, the ending is superb as this is an unpredictable film. It nearly perfect but I just feel it didn’t gel or flow together as much, it will surprise many people.

Now You See Me 2

The Four Horsemen resurface, and are forcibly recruited by a tech genius to pull off their most impossible heist yet. Action packed and entertaining film which never loses the story itself. it has got an all star cast and they all convince in their roles, it never feels rushed and we get to know these characters, it can be funny in places as it brims with comic one liners. this doesn’t feel too overcomplicated; the ending is clever as this is a thought-provoking film.
