Mini Films Reviews Volume 118

Smurfs (2025)

When Papa Smurf is taken by evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette leads the Smurfs on a mission to the real world to save him. Eye catching film from start to finish. it has got an all-star vocal cast which is pretty good, those are the only positives for this film; it lacks the charm of the three previous films, it isn’t laugh out loud funny, plus the musical element are weak. I just feel in general there are too many Smurfs films and you can tell with this film.

A Minecraft Movie

Four misfits find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld, a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. Another film which is eye catching from start to finish. the scenery and the idea behind this film is superb, but unfortunately this feels too cartoony plus the laughs seem forced, it also falters in the midsection, the visual is cool looking but this is disappointing.

The Legend Of Ochi

A young girl named Yuri is raised to fear the reclusive forest creatures known as the Ochi. However, when she discovers a baby Ochi left behind by its pack, she embarks on a perilous journey to reunite the creature with its family. I admire this film that try to be something different. The casting is convincing and totally believable, unfortunately the CGI/SFX is weak and unconvincing, it can get too weird and surreal; I just feel in general there are too many ideas with this film, I wanted to like this film but for me personally it didn’t quite work.

Nuremberg (2025)

As the Nuremberg trials are set to begin, a U.S. Army psychiatrist gets locked in a dramatic psychological showdown with accused Nazi war criminal Herman Goring. Personally, it’s the casting that made this film worth watching. The story is there as the idea behind this film is superb, it has got a pacing problem especially the first hour, also it lacks the psychological element as it doesn’t creep you under your skin, it doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh as it feels too safe and too predictable, the final third of this film is good as this is a well-made film.

The Black Cauldron

A young boy and a group of misfit friends embark on a quest to find a dark magic item of ultimate power before a diabolical tyrant can. Not your average Disney film as that is refreshing. It will draw you in from the start, the characters are great and brims with comic one liner, it doesn’t gel or flow together as much. if you get past that this is perfectly watchable, It is silently enjoyable and it will surprise many people.

Deep Sea

A girl named Shenxiu strays into the dreamy deep-sea world. In the deepest part of the sea, all secret is hidden. Gorgeous looking film that will touch people heart. Underneath the weirdness there is a beautiful story that will move you, it does falter just a little bit, if you get past that it has got a twist toward the end. You will care about with these characters as this film is silently powerful; this isn’t your average Hollywood type of animation, overall, this film is memorable.
