Mini Film Reviews Volume 121

The Bombardment

The fates of several Copenhagen residents collide when a WWII bombing mission accidentally targets a school full of children. The story and the idea behind this film is superb. It slowly draw you in from start to finish, the acting is totally believable and convincing, it lack that psychological aspect as it doesn’t creep you under your skin; the ending is weak and it doesn’t delve deep into the main historical elements, despite that this is a pretty good film.

The Roses

A tinderbox of competition and resentments underneath the façade of a picture – perfect couple is ignited when the husband’s professional dreams come crashing down. I admire this film as it tries to be something different. The chemistry between Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman is spot on; the first hour is perfect and the second half on this film it doesn’t quite work, the laughs seem forced and it can be too weird and surreal in places, if you get past that it has got a fantastic cast, this is certainly a well – made film.

Rumble

Winnie sets out to find a monster to represent her town in the sport of monster wrestling. She comes across Steve, a red reptilian amateur monster wrestler, who loves dancing. Underdog type of film which is a crowd pleaser. The vocal in this film is spot on and brims with comic one liner, this is easy watching but it doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh, this feels too safe and too predictable, despite that it has got some nice moment in this film.

About A Boy

Will, who attends single parent meetings to woo women, meets Marcus, a trouble 12-year-old boy. As they become friends, Will learns to be responsible while he helps Marcus with his studies. Quirky heartwarming film that will capture people heart. it got that unlikely friendships aspect which is important, it might not gel or flow together as much but it still watchable, it can be funny in places and it has got a fantastic cast, this is pretty good film.

About Time

At the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. A beautiful film that will move you as this is quietly powerful. The ending is perfect and it will draw you in, it can be funny in places as this is a heartwarming film, once you watch this film you will always remember this; the midsection falters just a little bit, overall I do like the message of life in general.

Wild Rose

A troubled young Glaswegian woman named Rose – Lynn dreams of becoming a Nashville country star. Real, honest and relatable film that will capture people heart. You will care about with these characters, this is a heartwarming underdog type of film, the chemistry between Jessie Buckley and Julie Walters is perfect; this will move you as this is quietly powerful. I just feel in general this doesn’t gel or flow together as much, this will surprised people as this is a superb film.
