10.The Lovely Bones (IMDB – 6.6/10)

Susie, a fourteen-year-old girl, is murdered by her neighbour Harvey. She refuses to move on from purgatory saying she has unfinished business and continues to watch over her family and her killer. Quietly powerful film that will move you from start to finish. the casting is spot on and totally convincing, it does have some flaws but it does have the tearjerker element, it’s the story that will draws you in, overall this is eye catching and it is well – made.

9.Where Hands Touch (IMDB – 6.6/10)

A biracial girl faces the constant threat of getting targeted because of her colour in a Nazi – ruled Germany. Moreover, her lover is the son of a prominent SS officer. Silently it’s the War aspect that made this film a real tearjerker. You will care about with these characters; it deals with racism and that is an important subject, it will touch people heart with this film, despite the midsection falters you will always remember this film, this is superbly made film.

8.The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry (IMDB – 6.8/10)

Harold is an ordinary man who has passed through life, living on the side lines, until he goes to post a letter one day… and keeps walking. Remarkable touching film that will touch people heart. it does deals with suicide with the flashback as this is a real tearjerker of a film, the acting is convincing and totally believable, it is heartwarming, sad, joyous type of story. It will move you as this is silently powerful, It can be slightly surreal in places but this is heartfelt.

7.Nonnas (IMDB – 6.8/10)

After losing his beloved mother, a man risks everything to honour her by opening an Italian restaurant with actual grandmothers as the chefs. Underdog tearjerker film with message of chasing your dreams. People will relates to that aspect of this film, it is well casted and this film will move you, this also based on a true story which I didn’t know, this film is watchable.

6.Kensuke’s Kingdom (IMDB – 6.9/10)

Young Michael, shipwrecked on a remote island, must adapt to life alone. Over time, he feels another presence, learning that this world is home to both unimaginable danger and beauty. Visually amazing with the hand drawn animation. There is a real sadness in this film as this is a tearjerker as it deals with loneliness, it got an unlikely friendship which people can relate, this is more characters than you expected,  it doesn’t quite gel but it still a beautiful film.

5.The Salt Path (IMDB – 6.6/10)

A couple lose their home and later discover the husband has been diagnosed with a terminal illness as they embark on a year long coastal trek. With stunning scenery and the chemistry between the two lead is spot on. It’s the flashback element of being homeless and the terminal illness that made this film a tearjerker, the film itself might not gel together but it still a pretty good film, the casting is perfect as they are believable, this is a relatable and powerful film.

4.The Friend (IMDB – 6.4/10)

When a solitary writer adopts and bonds with a Great Dane that belonged to a late friend, she begins to come to terms with her past and her own creative inner life. Xmas themes with this film as it set in the holiday season. It will silently move you from start to finish, it might not gel or flow together as much but it still a beautiful film, it is well casted as they all convinced in their roles, if you wanted something different this is ideal for you.

3.Deep Sea (IMDB – 6.8/10)

A girl strays into the dreamy deep-sea world. In the deepest part of the sea, all secrets are hidden. Zapped into a magical world just like a deep – sea world. That is the premise of this film, it just falters just a little bit but it still a beautiful film. It does delve deep into the mental health aspect and that what made this film a real tearjerker,  the animation itself is gorgeous to watch, once you watch this film you will always remember this.

2.The Unbreakable Boy (IMDB – 6.1/10)

A young boy with both a rare brittle – bone disease and autism transform everyone around him with his joyous, funny. And life – affirming world view. You will care about with these characters as this is a heartfelt film. This is a tearjerker film as it deals with life in general, the casting is perfect as they are convincing, it is cute, heartwarming and relatable film and people will relate to this film, it will leave you a lasting impression on you.

1.A United Kingdom (IMDB – 6.9/10)

The story of King Seretse Khama of Botswana and how his loving but controversial marriage to a British white woman, Ruth Williams, put his kingdom into political and diplomatic turmoil. Personally this film touches my heart as this is silently powerful. It deals with racism and that what made this film a real tearjerker, the casting is perfect and spot on, it could be hard to watch for some people, it will leave you a lasting impression on you.

  1. An excellent list of tearjerker films. I absolutely agree with all of these films on this list. However, one movie that’s missing which I would definitely add is “The Fault in Our Stars”. Released in 2014, Josh Boone’s movie offered a beautiful adaptation of a beloved book about terminal illness. It’s definitely a tearjerker that had me bawling my eyes out on multiple occasions. It’s one of the only movies that has ever made me cry. For these reasons, I would definitely add it to this list. I would highly recommend it if you haven’t already seen it.
