Mini Film Reviews Volume 122

Precious

In New York City’s Harlem circa 1987, an overweight, abused, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child is invited to enrol in an alternative school in hopes that she can re – route her life in a better direction. Firstly, the acting is convincing and totally believable. The story is there and the pacing is spot on, those are the positives; this is  bleak and depressing than being inspirational, with the characters they are hard to like. Also it hard to connect with this film; I don’t want to be too harsh on this film as it got some potential, due to these flaws this is a letdown.#

Complicit (2013)

Edward, an M15 officer, believes terror suspect Waleed is planning an attack in Britain. But he has no conclusive evidence, which makes it difficult for him to convince his superiors to take action. A slow burner film which is well casted. The story is pretty good and it will draws you in, it lacks that psychological element, it doesn’t gel or flow together as much and  it doesn’t leave you a lasting impression on you, overall if you wanted something different this is ideal.

Wild

A chronicle of one woman’s 1,100 – mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent personal tragedy. Being a personal journey type of film people will relate to that aspect. It has got stunning scenery and it will draw you in, it doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh, it feels too safe and too predictable; despite that it has got some nice moment in this film, overall this is a well – made film.

The Bad Guys 2

The Bad Guys are struggling to find trust and acceptance in their newly minted lives as Good Guys, when they are pulled out of retirement and forced to do “one last job” by an all – female squad of criminals. Entertaining action-packed film with stunning set pieces. The vocal in this film is superb and brims with comic one liners, the film itself is genuinely funny and the ending is perfect, this is one of the better sequels that actually good.

Amber Alert (2024)

A ride – share turns into a high – stakes game of cat and mouse after it follows a car fitting the description of an AMBER ALERT. Don’t judge this film as it got twist and turn throughout this film. it will creep you under your skin as it got that psychological edge, this is character driven as it got that emotional aspect, it feels unpredictable and that is the key to this film, once you watched this film you will always remember this.

I Swear

John Davidson: diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome at a young age which alienated him from his peers, he struggled with a condition few people had witnessed. Could be hard to watched for some people. I personally connect with this film as it about disabilities and overcoming obstacles, this never feels too sentimental or too forced and that is the key, it is quietly powerful and it will move you. This film will touch people heart as this is relatable, it will leave you a lasting impression on you; plus the acting is amazing.
