Article: Top 10 Overrated Films

10.The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas (IMDB -7.8/10)

Through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a German concentration camp, a forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence. This is a sensitive topic which is a good thing but it has too many inconsistent moments in the film and becoming unfocused and it started to feel like a one off programmed on BBC1 but also with good intentioned, so I would give it 6.5/10.

9.Se7en (IMDB – 8.6/10)

Two detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives. This is a well-made film with an all-star cast and the premise of this is a really good one in a well-intentioned whodunit type of film, the best thing in the film is the villain as he is memorable. The only thing is in this film losing a bit of momentum and becoming frustrating and it doesn’t gel as well and I would like just take it time than actually rushing it, for me personally it should be 7.0/ 10.

8.Zodiac (IMDB – 7.7/10)

In the late 1960s/ early 1970s, a San Francisco cartoonist becomes an amateur detective obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac killer. This is an interesting watch and I didn’t know it was based on a true story, so I was curious about this, this has got a good cast to this film with a good premise to this film. The pacing seems of and started to lose my interested and becoming too safe and becoming too predictable, If I would picked it would be 6.9/10.

7.ParaNorman (IMDB – 7.0/10)

A misunderstood boy takes on ghosts, zombies and grown – ups to save his town from a century – old curse. I see this film twice with an all-star voice cast as they are really good in this well-made animation film, the thing is I didn’t connect with the main lead and I just thought it just average and it not memorable enough and it was not as funny, this animation would a 6.0/10 on IMDB.

6.Hocus Pocus (IMDB – 6.9/10)

A curious youngster moves to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century. This has got a superb story to this film and it is well cast and the effect is really good, it hasn’t got that magic and it not as enchanted or laugh out loud funny, I know this is an Halloween type of film but there are more superb films than this one. If I marked this on IMDB I would personally give this film 5.9/10.

5.Joker (IMDB – 8.5/10)

In Gotham City, mentally troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He than embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face to face with his alter – ego: the Joker. This film is well presenter in this thoughtful story and there are a lot of interesting idea in this film, Joaquin Phoenix doesn’t match the intensity or the menacing of the Joker. The other thing is it not one of those film that get you under the skin, If I were on IMDB I would give it 7.1/10.

4.The World’s End (IMDB – 7.0/10)

Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from twenty years earlier unwittingly become humanity’s only hope for survival. This film have got an interesting concept with a good story with an all – star cast and it got new and a fresh take on the science fiction films, the thing is this is too weird and generally unfunny as well and if you compare the first two of the Cornetto trilogy this is the weakest and I would certainly give it 5.0/10.

3.Nocturnal Animals (IMDB – 7.5/10)

A wealthy art gallery owner is haunted by her ex – husband’s novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a symbolic revenge tale. A brilliant all star cast in this in curious tale that could be an amazing film, this film got overly complicated story and sometimes it hard to follow exactly of what actually happened. The opening of this film is certainly not for the faint hearted and once you watched all of this film you won’t remember it as it not memorable enough If I were a reviewer on IMDB 4.9/10.

2.Rocketman (IMDB – 7.3/10)

A musical fantasy about the fantastical human story of Elton John’s breakthrough years and his life story. An well meaning film with great acting especially Taron Edgerton and the rest of them are really good, the thing is this isn’t a normal biopic as it delve into a certain part of his life like with this addiction and I would like to know what make him the star he is. Luckily his music gloss over the story of this film and I would picked 6.7/10.

1.Hotel Mumbai (IMDB – 7.6/10)

The true story of the Taj Hotel terrorist attack in Mumbai. Hotel staff risk their lives to keep everyone safe as people make unthinkable sacrifices to protect themselves and their families. This is an sensitive topic that actually happen with an assembles of well know people in this film, I really wanted to like this film but this one not really sensitively handed or respect the true live account of the survival as they are hard to like as we can’t relate to them as much. Armie Hammer and Dev Patel is really good but the rest of them are not memorable enough nor the film as well, On IMDB if I put a review up I would put 5.1/10 because of those reason.

  1. Completely agree with you about Nocturnal Animals. I remember it had great reviews and we both picked to go and see. What a disappointment. It was beyond both of us why reviewers had raved about it.
