10.Chalet Girl (Snowboarding)

Former skateboard champion Kim wants to make more money after her mother’s tragic death. She joins the elite posh servicing company, which sends her off to Austria. A sweet nature film with brilliant soundtrack and the snowboarding element is well handed, it might have a slight romantic subplot that involved and it might be predictable for some people but the characters so likeable and it certainly bring a smile to people faces.

9.Racing Stripes (Horse Riding)

An abandoned zebra grows up believing he is a racehorse, and, with the help of his barnyard friends and a teenage girl, sets out to achieve his dream of racing with thoroughbreds. This is so uplifting and the message is just be yourself and do what you believe in, people will connect to this film because of those reason, the voice cast is excellent and the main people are superb and the racing scene is generally exciting with a feel-good film.

8.Herbie Fully Loaded (Motor Racing)

Maggie Peyton, the new owner of Herbie, Number 53, the free – wheeling Volkswagen bug with a mind of its own, puts the car through its paces on the road to becoming a NASCAR competitor. An uplifting film that certainly bring you fast and furious racing that is so exhilarating, it is certainly well casting with people are easy to like and the drama is well suited to this film, this is pure escapism, in this colourful and well-made film.

7.Fighting With My Family (Wrestling)

A former wrestler and his family make a living performing at small venues around the country while his kids dream of joining World Wresting Entertainment. Pure escapism in this coming-of-age film that it certainly is not very subtle, it has a comedy aspect which work really well and it is basically about never giving up and be that person who take risked and putting obstacles and chasing your dream, people will resonate with this film.

6.Fast Girls (Running)

A street-smart runner develops an intense rivalry with an equally ambitious wealthy young athlete. Fast Girl is a British film that is lesser known and that is the reason why everybody will like this, in this likeable film with characters that you getting to know and it has a brilliant story that is suitable and easy to follow. It might be cheesy and too predictable to people but this is an underdog type of film and it will leave you smiling.

5.Concussion (American Football)

In Pittsburgh, accomplished pathologist Dr Bennet Omalu uncovers the truth about brain damage in football players who suffer repeated concussions in the course of normal play. In this thought-provoking film that it bring an insightful detail in this true story, the acting is great and the story is utterly spot on in a clever, gripping and suspense style of film. It is so interesting and engrossing in a surprisingly entertained and an insightful film.

4.Invictus (Rugby)

Nelson Mandela, in his first term as President of South Africa, initiates a unique venture to unite the Apartheid – torn land: enlist the national rugby team on a mission to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup. A moving experience with a character driven film that give you a convincing and a moving account which is based on a true story that is half politic with the sport aspect which work really well, all the acting is so convincing and you can’t help it to root for them in the process of a superbly made film.

3.Eddie The Eagle (Skilling)

The story of Eddie Edwards, the notoriously tenacious British underdog ski jumper who charmed the world at the 1988 Winter Olympic. Too be honest with you I’m not normally a massive fan of Taron Egerton as he is unrecognisable and he’s excellent like with the rest of the casting as they are really good, it is certainly a crowd pleasing that touch people heart and he chasing his dream and people will connect to this message. It is a British film that will reach to the story in this ultimate feel-good film.

2.The Call Of The Wild (Sled Dog Racing)

As the great Klondike Gold Rush is attracting both ambitious treasure hunters and bold adventures to the unforgiving territories of Canada’s late – 1890s Yukon, Buck, a pampered St. Bernard – Scotch Collie dog, find himself without a master in a frozen new world. The cinematography is certainly out of this world in a film that has a brilliant story and the acting is superb, you will go on a journey with this dog in this life affirming film.

1.Early Man (Football)

Early Man tells the story of Dug, along with sidekick Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth and his Bronze Age City to save their home. The reason why I put this film first is because this is so suitable for adults and kids alike and this is a perfect family film. It is funny, thrilling and generally heartfelt and with a true underdog type of film that you would root for them, the voice casting is superb with comic timing in an all-British film even if you are not a football fan as it is a well-intentioned and an uplifting film that you will laugh at.

  1. An interesting list Mark. I would add Ford v Ferrari from the films we have seen recently. And then, as usual, I will refer you to some older films that are all time classics. Staying with motor racing there is Senna and Le Mans which stars Steve Mcqueen no less.
    In other sports Cool Runnings, Champions and I, Tonya are other ones based on true stories.
    But my all time favourite sports film has to be This Sporting Life starring Richard Harris like you have never seen him before. Made in 1963 but well worth seeking out.
