10.The Farewell

A Chinese family discovers their grandmother has only a short while left to live and decide to keep her in the dark, scheduling a wedding to gather before she dies. For me personally it’s the acting that made this film watchable, Nora Lum is likeable in her role and it is well casted and the intentions is there, it is well – made and overall, the idea is there and the story is rather good plus you should give this film a chance, it will surprise you as this film is superbly made.

9.Amsterdam

In the 1930s, three friends witness a murder, are framed for it, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history. It is one of those film that will divide people as some will like this and some don’t, personally I admire this film that try to be something different and it got an all star cast, if you get past the weirdness this can be rather funny and it didn’t take itself too seriously and that is the key to this film, if you wanted something different this is ideal for you.

8.The Finest Hours

The coast guard makes a daring rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Cod after a pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard in 1952. Having watch this on Disney Plus I thought wowed as this is silently powerful, this also based on a true story and it pay respect to those people who inspired this film, this is exciting and this is totally unpredictable from start to finish and overall, it will draw you in, it also underrated as this is silently a good film which is gorgeous to look at.

 7.The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry

Harold is an ordinary man who has passed through life, living on the side lines, until he goes to post a letter one day and just keeps walking. Give this film a chance as it doesn’t drawn you in from the start and once you get past that this is a good film, you generally care with these characters and the subject matter is a good one, the film in general is funny, sad and uplifting at the same time and it does work, this is one of those film that is well casted and this can be powerful and it will move you.

6.The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society

In the aftermath of World War II, a writer forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war. Everything about this film is cute, charming, and uplifting with a beautiful story, the scenery is outstanding and it has got a beautiful ending, the good thing with this film it never gets too overcomplicated with the flashback element, this is simply a feel-good experience.

5.Everybody’s Fine

A widower who realized his only connection to his family was through his wife sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children. Definitely the best Robert De Niro film as this is beautiful, it has got some nice moment in this quietly effective film, which is about the appreciation of families and friends, the acting is great and this film is subtle and charming at the same time, this is watchable and I’m sure people will connect to this film.

4.Balloon (2018)

East Germany, 1979. After initially failing to flee from the East to the West in a self – built hot air balloon, two families struggle to make a second attempt, while the East Germany State Police are chasing them. Compelling and totally unpredictable as this is quietly effective, the pacing is perfect as it never boring as this is a slow burner, the story is there and overall, it will draw you in from start to finish, this is a memorable film and I think personally you should give this a chance.

3.The Bucket List

Two terminally ill men escape from a cancer ward and head off on a road trip with a wish list of to dos before they die. Being a comfort watch type of film as this doesn’t feel too sentimental or rather forced, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman got superb chemistry together and they are likeable in their roles, it is sad but it also a heart-warming film about an unlikely friendship and this is generally heartfelt, this is a nice film and this is simply beautiful and this can be rather funny.

2.A Man Called Ove

Ove, an ill – tempered, isolated retiree who spends his days enforcing block association rules and visiting his wife’s grave, has finally given up on life just as an unlikely friendship develops with his boisterous new neighbours. A wonderful look of life in general and this will move you as this is one of the best foreign films, you also care about with these characters and this is heart-breaking but it has good an emotional core to this film, beautiful film that will capture your heart and you will connect to this film, this is certainly memorable and it is a superb film.

1.Nomadland

A woman in her sixties, after losing everything in the Great Recession, embarks on a journey through the American West, living as a van dwelling modern day nomad. Just breath-taking as this has got stunning scenery, you care about with these characters and the moral is choosing your own paths and don’t let anyone influence you, I personally connect with this message and it is one of those film that will leaves you a lasting impression on you, this film is simply beautiful.

  1. The list for this genre could go on and on. Here’s my next 10 suggestions:
    1. In the Heat of the Night (1967) – A young black detective is sent to investigate a murder with bigoted whit sheriff.
    2. Do The Right Thing – Spike Lee’s first and best film about racial tensions.
    3. Dead Poets Society (1989) – Robin Williams as an inspiring teacher.
    4. Boyhood (2014) – famously shot over 12 years showing the real life growth of a boy
    5. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) – Jack Nicholson in a mental institution. Classic.
    6. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) Another classic.
    7. Naked (1993) – great drama directed by Mike Leigh
    8. Night of the Hunter (1955) – Robert Mitchum as a threatening character.
    9. Network (1976) – TV presenter goes rogue
    10. Schindler’s List (1993) – classic WWII drama.
