5.Bridget Jones (2001 – 2016)

Bridget Jones is determined to improve herself while she looks for love in a year in which she keeps a personal diary, plus Bridget Jones life is complicated. All these films are consistent as they are cute and heart-warming, the characters are likeable and Jim Broadbent is hilarious in his role as he plays Bridget’s dad, it might not be for cynical type of person but these films are funny and heartfelt at the same time, these films are nice and silently uplifting as well.
4.Ethel & Ernest

Faithful especially to the tone of his source graphic novel, Raymond Briggs, as an homage to and affection for them, tells the story of the relationship between his parents, Ethel, and Ernest Briggs. Beautiful hand drawn animation film with superb vocal in this film, the story is there and the intentions is there plus this is well – made and watchable at the same time, it is one of those film that is more suitable for adult and teenager but this is heartfelt and it is gorgeous to look at.
3.The Duke

In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60-year-old taxi driver, steals Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. It might not draw you in from the start but once the film gets going this is a good film, the film in general is likeable and this feel like an underdog type of film and you care about with these characters, the acting is spot on and totally convincing as this is believable, overall, this is an enjoyable film which silently made you smile by the end.
2.The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe

Four kids travel through a wardrobe to the land of Narnia and learn of their destiny to free it with the guidance of a mystical lion. Firstly, I know Jim Broadbent have a smaller role in this film and this is eye catching, it has got stunning scenery and amazing CGI/SFX that look realistic and the story is fantastic, this also suitable for a family viewing and it also pure escapism and rainy-day type of film, this is enjoyable and overall, it is one of the best fantasy films which is underrated.
1.The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry

Harold is an ordinary man who has passed through life, living on the side lines, until he goes to post a letter one day and just keeps walking. Everything about this film ticked all the boxes as this is silently powerful, it also leaves you a lasting impression on you and it will move you as well plus this is memorable, the acting is amazing and the subject matter is important as this is character driven, it is funny, sad, and uplifting film that mixed in well and this film will surprise you.
Jim Broadbent is a great actor. I would add these films to your list:
Another Year (2010)
Topsy Turvy (1999) about Gilbert and Sullivan
Life is Sweet (1990)
These first three were directed by Mike Leigh, who lets the cast improvise their parts.
Little Voice
