Mini Film Review Volume 67

The Rocketeer

A young pilot stumbles onto a prototype jetpack that allows him to become a high – flying masked hero. Firstly, I wanted to like this film as it got a good story, but unfortunately, I can’t get into with this film. The film itself take itself too seriously and the pacing is off and all the characters are hard to like, this is too predictable and too safe and it doesn’t offer you anything new, I just think in general this film doesn’t really work.

The Way

A father heads overseas to recover the body of his estranged son who died while traveling the “El Camino de Santiago” and decides to take the pilgrimage himself. One of those film that could have been a great film, it just this film feels like a one-off television programme and it feel rather forced, this also too sentimental but the story is there, too be fair with the acting they really tried their hardest but it’s the film in general, the scenery looks outstanding but it doesn’t deliver.

Armageddon Time

A deeply personal coming of age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream. With this film it has got potential and the story is great, the thing is this doesn’t feel relatable and it doesn’t move you, it hard to connect with this film and the acting is okay but nothing special, for me personally the film feel rather unexplained with certain aspect despite you wanted to like this, I can’t get into with this film and that is a real shame.

The Lost City

A reclusive romance novelist on a book tour with her cover model gets swept up in a kidnapping attempt that lands them both in a cutthroat jungle adventure. Normally with adventure films they are subtle but this one isn’t, it doesn’t really gel together and it doesn’t flow and it not quite laugh out loud funny, the violence can be slightly too over the top for some people and it can be slightly off putting, despite that the chemistry between the two stars is spot on as this a well – made film.

Don’t Worry Darling

While her husband leaves home everyday to work in a top – secret facility, a young 1950s housewife begins to question her life when she notices strange behaviour from the other wives in the neighbourhood. Personally, I don’t get the hate for this film, the acting is totally believable and convincing in their role, it also made you think and this never gets too overcomplicated and the idea is there, the only thing is, it’s the ending that leaves anticlimax and doesn’t really gel together as much, despite that this is intriguing and it slowly drawn you in.

Bridge Of Spies

During the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court, and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers. For me personally it’s the chemistry between Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance is fantastic, it will leave you a lasting impression on you as this is memorable from start to finish, you care about with these characters and the pacing is spot on and it does hold your interest, overall, it will draw you in and this is silently powerful as this a well – made film.
