  1. This is an interesting topic and a good excuse to remember all the foreign movies I have liked. Here’s a selection.
Any Kurosawa film (Japanese director), but especially The Seven Samurai (1954), Rashomon (1950), and Ran (1985). The Magnificent Seven was a remake of Seven Samurai. Ran is his version of Shakespeare’s King Lear – very impressive battle scenes. Rashomon is a psychological thriller exploring the nature of truth.
The Lives of Others (2006) – story about spying on others in East Berlin in 1984.
Cinema Paradiso (1988) – memories of cinema in childhood.
All Quiet on the Western Front and Das Boot – German films about war.
Talk To Her (2002) and All About My Mother (1999 Oscar for best Foreign film) by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar.
The Farewell (2019) – Chinese film about how they deal with death. I think we might have seen this one together.
