When the geriatric ward in a small Yorkshire hospital is threatened with closure, the hospital decides to fight back by galvanizing the local community. It might not gel or flows together with the first hour, but the second half is getting much better and the ending is clever, I also admire this film that try to be something different, it is totally unpredictable and if you being patience with this film, you ended up liking this film.

9.The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry (28/04/2023)

Harold is an ordinary man who has passed through life, living on the side lines, until he goes to post a letter one day… and just walking. Doesn’t really drawn you in at first and it can get a little bit silly in certain places, once you get past that, it deals with a sensitive topic of suicide and it can be hard hitting for some people, the main lead is likeable and the story is spot on, as this can be moving and powerful plus the acting is amazing.

Against the backstory of a war between humans and robots with artificial intelligence, a former solder finds the secret weapon, a robot in the form of a young child. D’Artagnan arrives in Paris trying to find his attackers after being left for dead, which leads him to a real war where the future of France is at stake. He aligns himself with Athos, Porthos and Aramis, three musketeers of the king. Too be honest with you this film surprise me as I wasn’t expected to like this, it also not your unusual Hollywood type of film which is refreshing, it is one of the best foreign films as this is character driven, maybe the midsection falters just a little bit but it certainly recovers and this film will surprise you as well.

4.Oppenheimer (21/07/2023)

The story of American scientist, J Robert Oppenheimer, and his role in the development of the atomic bomb. One of those film that nearly a five star film for me personally, the pacing can be slightly off earlier on but it certainly recovers, but after that it silently drawn you in as the ending is superb, the casting is perfect and they all convince in their roles, it also made you think as well and this never get too overcomplicated, if you being patience with film you will ended up liking this.

An unlikely pair Ember and Wade who live in a city where fire, water, land, and air resident live together. In post – World War II Venice, Poirot, now retired and living in his own exile, reluctantly attends a séance. But when one of the guests is murdered, it is up to the former detective to once again uncover the killer. Might not show the stunning scenery of Venice itself, but it never gets too overcomplicated with the flashback element, it got an all star cast and they all convince in their roles, it got that psychological aspect and that works perfectly, this is an intelligent and clever film.

  1. I obviously haven’t watched as many films as you this year, but these are my top picks from those I have seen:
Oppenheimer – which I was lucky enough to see on an i-max screen
Empire of Light – great acting by Olivia Colman
    The Fablemans – Spielberg;s story
The Great Escaper – Glenda Jackson giving an acting master class from a wheelchair.
Napoleon – a bit hit and miss but overall a good watch.

  2. That is a fair point as that is so true about me of watching a lot of films. I must watched out for Empire Of Light, The Great Escaper and Napoleon, we both entirely agreed on The Fablemans and Oppenheimer.
