Mini Film Reviews Volume 94

Arthur’s Whisky

When Joan’s husband dies, she is shocked to discover he had invented an elixir which makes the drinker look young again. Sharing it with her two friends. I like the idea and the story behind this film, it is well casted and they all convince in their roles, but unfortunately the film itself lacks the charm and it feel rather rushed. I just feel in general this is too sentimental and rather forced, with those flaws it could have been something special, it didn’t deliver.

 Ideal Home

A bickering gay couple name Erasmus and Paul must suddenly deal with the unexpected task of raising a 10-year-old boy. The chemistry between Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd is spot on. I also like the topic of LGBTQ and that is important, for me personally it lack that emotional aspect and it doesn’t leave you a lasting impression on you, the film itself isn’t as subtle as it needed with this type of film, I wanted to like this film as it got great potential, it didn’t quite deliver.

Stuart Little 2

A young male mouse meets a new friend who is being controlled by a conning and vicious falcon. With the help of his family, he does his best to help his new friend gain freedom. Personally, this film is easy to watch as this is watchable, the CGI/SFX does look realistic with a good story. It doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh as it is rather safe, it is too predictable but despite that it has got some nice moment in this film, this is a family viewing film.

500 Days Of Summer

After being dumped by the girl he believes to be his soulmate, hopeless romantic Tom Hansen reflects on their relationship to try and figure out where things went wrong and how he can win her back. Quietly powerful as this can move you from start to finish. I also admire this film that try to be something different, the main lead is likeable and the film itself will draw you in, the only thing with this film the midsection falters, it is enjoyable.

Song Of The Sea

Ben, a young Irish boy, and his little sister Saoirse, a girl who can turn into a seal, go on an adventure to free the fairies and save the spirit world. Gorgeous looking animation film that will capture your heart, the scenery is outstanding as this is eye catching from the start. You will care about with these characters, it nearly perfect and I feel in general the first half doesn’t gel or flow together as much, once you watch this you will always remember this film.

The Six Triple Eight

855 women joined the war to fix the three-year backlog of undelivered mail. Faced with discrimination and a country devastated by war, they managed to sort more than 17 million pieces of mail ahead of time. One of those film that will leave you a lasting impression on you. It is silently powerful and you will care about with these characters, I didn’t know it based on a true story and it inspired those people behind this film, this is certainly memorable and the pacing is perfect as it does hold your interest, I reckon it will surprise many people.
