Solo: A Star Wars Story

During an adventure in the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future co – pilot Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebel Alliance. This has got good set pieces and the story is perfect. This is certainly entertaining, I just feel in general Ron Howard out of his element. He doesn’t usually make science fiction films, it has got a pacing problems but despite that this is watchable, it has got great potential but it didn’t quite deliver.

I Hostage

When a gunman enters an Apple store in the heart of Amsterdam, the police face a delicate challenge to resolve the standoff. Based on true events. The idea and the story are spot on as the acting is believable and totally convincing. for me personally this film seems rushed as this isn’t as character driven, it also lacks the psychological element as it doesn’t creep you under your skin, despite that this film is intriguing, if you wanted something different this is ideal.

The Spiderwick Chronicles

Upon moving into the run – down Spiderwick Estate with their mother, twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace, along with their sister Mallory, find themselves pulled into an alternate world full of faeries and other creatures. Eye catching fantasy film which is certainly watchable. The CGI/SFX is truly outstanding, it can feel rather safe as it doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh, despite that this has got a multilayered story, overall, this is a good film.

Still Alice

A linguistics professor and her family find their bonds tested when she is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Quietly powerful and this film will move you from start to finish. The acting is convincing and totally believable, it could have been a five-star film but it doesn’t gel or flow together as much, the pacing is perfect as it does hold your interest. It is a memorable film and this has got a beautiful story, overall, this is a superbly made film.

Smallfoot

Migo, a friendly yeti, faces banishment from his home after he claims that humans exist. However, he embarks on a mission to prove himself and earn the respect of the villagers. Calming type of film as this is light-hearted. It will made you smile as this is an inoffensive film, for me personally the musical aspect doesn’t quite work, it might not be for everyone but this is cute and fun film, in general this is a family viewing type of film as this suitable for all ages.

The Dry

Aaron Falk returns to his drought – stricken hometown to attend a tragic funeral. But his return opens a decades old wound – the unsolved death of a teenage girl. Multilayered story which is quietly powerful. It has got stunning scenery and it will draw you in, the flashback element never gets too overcomplicated and that is the key. This is totally unpredictable with twist after twist, once you watch this film you will always remember this, this is seriously good.

I’ll watch out for The Dry.
