  1. Here’s some of his earlier films that I can recommend:

Shallow Grave (1994) – Three friends discover their new flatmate dead but loaded with cash. Directed by Danny Boyle.

Trainspotting (1996) – Renton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out despite the allure of drugs and the influence of friends. Can’t have a list of his films without including this one. Also directed by Danny Boyle. Great soundtrack.

Brassed Off (1996) – The coal mine in a northern English village may be closing, which would also mean the end of the miners’ brass band. Great feel good film.

Little Voice (1998) – A shy reclusive lady is convinced by an invisible entity to sing. Subsequently, she finds herself noticed by a sleazy talent agent and her talent being showcased on-stage. She also meets a kind but nervous man who becomes her best friend. Also starring Brenda Blethyn, Michael Caine, and Jane Horrocks.
