Mini Film Reviews Volume 124

The Swedish Connection

A Swedish bureaucrat becomes an unlikely war hero as he attempts to save Jewish lives during the darkest days of WWII. The story and the idea behind this film is superb. the casting is spot on as they all convince in their roles, for me personally the comedy aspect doesn’t quite work, also it has got a bit of a pacing problem; it doesn’t gel or flow together as much; The final third of this film works perfectly, despite of these flaws it still pretty good.

Widows (2018)

Four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities take fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. Another film which the casting is perfect as they all convince in their roles. It certainly draws you in from start to finish; those are the positives, it lacks that psychological element and the ending is weak, it falters in the midsection with this film; if you get past that this has got twist and turn throughout this film, overall this is superbly made film.

The King Of Kings

Renowned writer Charles Dickens shares the story of Jesus Christ with his son, Walter. As his father narrates the stirring tale, Walter becomes captivated with the events of Jesus’s life. Gorgeous looking animation film with stunning scenery. The story is beautiful and it will touch people heart, those are the positives; it doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh, it feels too safe and too predictable, this is perfectly watchable as this is well – made.

Lady And The Tramp

The romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel dog named Lady and a streetwise downtown Mutt. Lovely hand drawn animation film that will capture people heart. the story is simple as this is easy to watch, it can be funny in places as this is a family viewing film, it doesn’t gel or flow together as much; despite that the songs are catchy and memorable, overall this is a pure escapism type of film.

Nanny McPhee

Cedric Brown is left with seven mischievous children after the sudden death of his wife. Resultantly, he seeks the help of a nanny with magical powers to control them. One of those film which is perfectly watchable. It doesn’t feels too sentimental and that is the key, it is heartwarming and a cute film, the only negatives with this film it can feels slightly cartoony, despite that it will made people smile.

Remarkably Bright Creatures

Through unlikely bonds formed during night shifts at a local aquarium, Tova, an elderly widow, learns of a life – changing discovery that may bring her joy and wonder once again. Real, relatable and charming film which is quietly powerful. People will relate to this film as it about life in general, it has got nice moment in this film, the scenery looks beautiful and the chemistry between the two lead is spot on; it is life affirming and it has got twist and turn throughout this film, it will leave you a lasting impression on you.
