A vibrant tale of young love in this thoughtful film that certainly bring you a sensitive topic, it is well told and with convincing acting all around with an all – star cast in this sensitively, moving and generally insightful in this thought – provoking film.

8.Darkest Hour (2018 -Best Makeup & Hairstyling)

In May 1940, the fate of World War 2 hangs on Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Adolf Hitler, or fight on knowing that it could mean the end of the British Empire. A fact-based film that is based on a true story with a well-known cast which certainly elevates this film into this outstanding film of the man itself, A drama which is certainly compelling in this thoughtful film.

7.1917 (2020 – Best Cinematography)

April 6th, 1917, As a regiment assembles to wage war deep in enemy territory, two soldiers are assigned to race against time and deliver a message that will stop 1,600 men from walking straight into a deadly trap. A majestic film that certainly keep you on your toes and the acting is amazing, the cinematography is spellbinding and often a poignancy tale of courage and bravery and you can go on a journey with these characters.

6.Titanic (1998 – Best Visual Effect)

A seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic. The most important thing for this film is the pacing as it just spot on and a well told factual film, it is certainly tense from start to finish and that what make it watchable in this exciting and a brilliant story that is well handled.

5.Inception (2011 – Best Sound Mixing)

A thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream – sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O. An exciting action film that blended all the element into an complex storyline that people can follow it and it basically a dream within a dream into a futuristic world, some people say it is too confusing but once you follow this story it won’t be and just stay focused. This film just drawn you in from start to finish in this well observed film.

 4.Parasite (2020 – Best Picture)

Greed and class discrimination threaten the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan. This is surprisingly a well effective film with twist and turn and brilliant camera angle make this an uncomfortable viewing, the acting is superbly spot on and this is a masterpiece of suspense, terror and unpredictable which made this an amazing thrill ride type of film.

3.Gravity (2014 – Best Music Score)

Dr. Ryan Stone is a medical engineer on her first shuttle mission. Her commander is veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky, helming his last flight before retirement. Then, during a routine space walk by the pair, disaster strike. In this emotional and unbearable tense 90-minute film it certainly captivating with two of the stars so good in this film, a thoughtful story with the visual are literally out of this world and keep this film watchable.

2.La La Land (2017 – Best Director)

While navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future. This is definitely a date night film with your girlfriend or partner and this is so romantic even a male will lap it up with a timeless story, with likeable two main lead and with fantastic music and generally heartfelt in this usual enjoyable film that will touch people heart.

1.Toy Story 4 (2020 – Best Animated Film)

When a new toy called “Forky” joins Woody and the gang, a road trip alongside old and new friends reveals how big the world can be for a toy.  A beautiful film with a really good message of finding yourself in a big world and partly is about accepted by other people and always remember them and started a new life in the process, Everybody can connect with this film with these lovable characters, it is funny, feel good and generally heartfelt at the same time.

  1. All good selections Mark, but you can’t have a list of best Oscar winners without considering some of these Best Pictures:
    The Shape of Water (which we saw together)
    Slumdog Millionaire
    No Country for Old Men (it’s a disgrace that the Cohen Brothers haven’t won more Oscars)
    Schindler’s List (never forget the image of the little girl in red in the middle of black and white picture)
    Rain Man, Midnight Cowboy – two great performances by Dustin Hoffman
    And you can’t leave out Casablanca – one of the all time greats.
