10.Johnny English (2003 – 2018)

After a sudden attack on M15, Johnny English, Britain’s most confident, yet unintelligent spy, becomes Britain’s only spy and he go on numerous missions to save the world. This might divided people but I personally found it really funny and that bring comic timing out of Rowan Atkinson, as he is really good and the set pieces is generally exciting in this parody comedy take of James Bond, in this well-meaning and entertaining film.
9.Get Smart

Maxwell Smart, a highly intellectual but bumbling spy working for the CONTROL agency is tasked with preventing a terrorist attack from rival spy agency KAOS. Some people will like this but some people don’t but I personally love it as it got a brilliant story with an all – star cast with funny one liner and it is just funny with amazing stunts and pastiche of different spies film but it is a well-intentioned film.
8.Enemy Of The State

A lawyer becomes targeted by a corrupt politician and his N.S.A. goons when he accidentally receives key evidence to a politically motivated crime. This is definitely an espionage film with spies out of nowhere in this stylish, clever and thought provoking that is so watchable in a gripping film, the casting is spot on and it is really engrossing as well and that what made this film really good.
7.Mission Impossible

An American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization. Of all the Mission Impossible films that I would chose it would be the first one as it started the franchises of this film, it is out of nowhere you got a thoughtful and intelligent type of film as it well casted with amazing location with a superb story that is so engrossing.
6.The Bourne Ultimatum

Jason Bourne dodges a ruthless C.I.A. official and his agents from a new assassination program while searching for the origins of his life as a trained killer. For me personally this got to be the best Bourne film of the franchises as it got funny one liner with a stellar cast that bring some excitement with a complex story that is so simple, it is so action packed with nerve dangling dangerous stunt in this enjoyable from start to finish in this superbly made film.
5.Skyfall

James Bond’s loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When M16 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. Of all the Bond film this is definitely the best mile off with a brilliant soundtrack with multi layered story that is so gripping and exciting at the same time, it certainly drawn you from the first frame and the villain is definitely memorable in this super tense film.
4.Inception

A thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream – sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O. I got to admit something this is one of Christopher Nolan best film as it is ingenious and inventive plus with a great premise that made you think, it got a load of well-known faces and this is utterly believable in a film that is so compelling and really exciting in this mind blowing but not too overcomplicated in this superbly made film.
3.Knight And Day

A young woman named June Havens get mixed up with a disgraced spy named Roy Miller who is trying to clear his name. Definitely one of the best Tom Cruise film as it is funny, smart, intelligent with a lot of action which blended in well with the story, Cameron Diaz have got superb comic timing and funny one liner as the film is not over serious in this rip – roaring fun action packed that will entertained people.
2.Stormbreaker

After the death of his uncle, the 14 years old schoolboy Alex Rider is forced by the Special Operations Division of the UK’s secret intelligence service, M16, into a mission which will save millions of lives. A fantastic, underrated film that is like a junior James Bond which is more suitable with teenagers and a change of paced than just action packed, it take time for some character development which is work really well and with stellar cast that bring funny one liner with a brilliant villain in this heartfelt film.
1.Bridge Of Spies

During the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court, and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers. A welcome change of paced as it is very wordy but highly compelling in this thoughtful but moving account, it is very uplifting with a hint of poignancy which made this film a worthwhile viewing. Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance is a revelation and you actually feel for them in this underrated and a gem of a film.
Another good mix Mark, and I agree with you about Bridge of Spies – great film. As always, let me recommend some older films in this genre:
I know from your review you didn’t like Tinker Tailor, but for me one of the best in this genre. The TV series with Alec Guinness was even better. Other great films that portrayed the banality of the spy’s work were The Spy who Came in From the Cold (Richard Burton), and the Ipcress File (Michael Caine).
Bu, by far the best espionage film I have seen was The Lives of Others about life in East Germany during the Cold War. Worth tracking down.
