A cover – up spanning for U.S. Presidents pushes the country’s first female newspaper publisher and her editor to join an unprecedented battle between press and government. A thoughtful and a clever film which bring two heavyweight giants in Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in a sincere and generally tense with a cliff-hanger ending which is really clever and really good in this well-made film.

9.Enemy Of The State

A lawyer becomes targeted by a corrupt politician and his N.S.A. goons when he accidentally receives key evidence to a politically motivated crime. A superb effective film that it has a complex story that is easy to follow and made you think as well, it is suspense and nervy with every twist in the book as it is unpredictable with some excitement at the same time. The acting is certainly convincing and memorable in this twisty but super smart film that keep you hooked from the first frame.

8.Churchill

Ninety – six hours before the World War II invasion of Normandy, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill struggles with his severe reservations with Operation Overlord and his increasingly marginalized role in the war effort. The first opening scene is certainly memorable in a poignancy and moving account on the older Winston Churchill which is a sincere tale and a really good film that is so watchable.

7.Darkest Hour

In May 1940, the fate of World War II hangs on Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Adolf Hitler, or fight on knowing that it could mean the end of the British Empire. Gary Oldman and the rest of the cast so believable and made this wonderful and majestic film, which is so interesting and keep this film going, a great premise with convincing storytelling made this really engrossing from start to finish.

6.Selma

A chronicle of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr’s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965. This is definitely a fascinating watch which is certainly an eye opener and the acting is out of this world in this sombre, moving and a real sense of wonder. It is certainly hard to watch in certain places but it certainly worth it of actually seeing a film which has got a sensitive topic as it needed to be told.

5.On The Basis Of Sex

The true story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, her struggles for equal rights, and the early cases of a historic career that lead to her nomination and confirmation as U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice. In this surprisingly effective film that is so good and especially from the cast plus Felicity Jones is Oscar worthy performance and that what made this film really good, Armie Hammer is silently really good as her husband in this superbly made film.

4.Motherless Brooklyn

In 1950s New York, a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette’s Syndrome ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend. It definitely have the politic aspect of this film as it is so good with array of well-known faces and a beautiful and poignancy ending which is so brilliant, the other thing is it doesn’t have an overcomplicated plot or stuffed to much in as the pacing is just right and it is just clever with simple storytelling made this a compelling watch.

3.Bridge Of Spies

During the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet Spy in court, and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers. Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance are inch perfect and the acting masterclass of supporting cast are magnificent in a tale of suspense, tense and totally unpredictable, which is certainly watchable and gripping from start to finish in a highly intelligent film.

2.Dark Waters

A corporate defence attorney takes on an environmental lawsuit against a chemical company that exposes a lengthy history of pollution. Taut, tense, suspense and totally unpredictable which is utterly brilliant and compelling all in one, this film have a great premise and with great acting and with it being unpredictable you never know what going to happen next and Anne Hathaway is really good as the wife of Mark Ruffalo characters in this gem of a movie that is so underrated.

1.Crip Camp

Down the road from Woodstock, a revolution blossomed at a ramshackle summer camp for teenagers with disabilities, transforming their lives and igniting a landmark movement. Too be honest with you I was comprehension about it and I’m glad that I watch it and I know what people thinking why a random documentary as my number one, the first half is a character study and the second half it got a political aspect of it, it will change your life and you would rooted for the underdog and you will connect to it, for example me and everyone should watch this masterpiece.

  1. Another interesting selection Mark, and another reminder to search out Crip Camp. I can add some suggestions to your list, mostly older films of course!
    The Manchurian Candidate – there are two versions 1950s and 1980s – both good.
    Other American stories include Malcolm X, Lincoln (Daniel Day Lewis), Mr Smith Goes to Washington, various ones about President Nixon – All the President’s Men (Watergate), Frost/Nixon, and not forgetting Elvis and Nixon!
    Two stories from South Africa should be included – Cry Freedom (Biko), and Invictus, which we watched together.
    Last, but not least, In The Loop, a spin off from the satirical TV series The Thick of It. One of the most successful transfers from TV to cinema.
