It might not be groundbreaking but it can be really funny, it has got a good story and the main lead is likeable in this well – made film.

9.Pan’s Labyrinth

In the Falangist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world. At least this try to be something different which I really admire and the visual is out of this world, the acting is wonderful and it is majestic to look at in this watchable film that will drawn you in from start to finish.

8.The Life Ahead

In seaside Italy, a Holocaust survivor with a divorce business takes in a 12-year-old street kid who recently robbed her. Gorgeous looking film and what made this so special is the chemistry between the two leads, it is one of those film that will made you smile and it also deal with death but not too much as it is moving and sincere.

7.Parasite

Greed and class discrimination threaten the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim Clan. Definitely one of the best psychological horror drama types of film, it also has got twist after twist as this is unpredictable and the pacing is just right, this is memorable and it will stay with you.

6.Jiro Dreams Of Sushi

A documentary on 85-year-old sushi master Jiro Ono, his renowned Tokyo restaurant, and his relationship with his son and eventual heir, Yoshikazu. Feel good type of film and this is pure escapism, it also made you smile and this is so watchable and it is a calming experience that is so fascinating, if you want something different and really uplifting this will be ideal for everyone.

5.The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2009)

A journalist is aided by a young female hacker in his search for the killer of a woman who has been dead for forty years. Can be too much for some people as this can be hard to watch but overall, this is gripping and it never get too overcomplicated, the two main lead is excellent in this whodunnit type of film and the pacing is just right. You won’t get bored as this is engrossing and this is watchable with twist after twist.

4.The Breadwinner

In 2001, Afghanistan is under the control of the Taliban. When her father is captured, a determined young girl disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for her family. Haven’t watch this film for ages and it is beautiful and totally memorable, the vocal talent is brilliant in this life affirming film that will leave you a lasting impression on you.

3.The Eagle Huntress

Thirteen-year-old Aisholpan trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her nomad family to become an eagle huntress. Everything about this documentary will definitely change your life forever, it also about chasing your dream and it will capture your heart and with stunning scenery, overall, this will wowed you from the first frame.

2.A Man Called Ove

Ove, an ill – tempered, isolated retiree who spends his days enforcing block association rules and visiting his wife’s grave, has finally given up on life just as an unlikely friendship develops with his boisterous new neighbors. Beautiful and a relatable film that will touch people heart and the story is magnificent, the acting is brilliant and it is heartfelt and honest film which is superbly made.

1.Only Yesterday

A twenty-seven-year-old office worker travels to the countryside while reminiscing about her childhood in Tokyo. Just simply breathtaking and it will automatically drawn you in as this will leave you a lasting impression on you, it also about growing up and your adolescent and I can connect with that aspect, the animation looks gorgeous to watch in this moving and sincere film.

  1. Some good choices there Mark, and some I have not heard of before for me to check out. For me, a choice of foreign films would have to have the Director Kurosawa at the top of the list. Any of his films are worth watching, in particular Seven Samurai, Ran, and Yojimbo.
    Others I would include are:
    Cinema Paradiso – classic
    Talk to Her directed by Pedro Almodovar
    The Seventh Seal directed by Ingmar Bergman
