Mini Film Reviews Volume 55

Clouds (2020)

A young musician discovers his cancer has spread, leaving him just a few months to live. With limited time, he follows his dream and makes an album, unaware that it will soon be a viral music phenomenon. Firstly I didn’t know this based on a true story and I really like the story to this film, the acting is brilliant and really trying their best, but unfortunately it’s the film itself feel rather forced and too sentimental, the pacing can be inconsistent as this got potential but it certainly failed.

My Policeman

The arrival of Patrick into Marion and Tom’s home triggers the exploration of seismic events from 40 years previously. I really wanted to like this film and I wanted to feel something with this film, to be fair with the acting they really trying their best, but despite that you can’t really connect to this, it feel rather miscast as the older version of the characters didn’t look like their younger self, this is a real shame and it doesn’t deliver whatsoever.\

Philomena

A world – weary political journalist picks up the story of a woman’s search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she become pregnant and was forced to live in a convent. Personally this is a good film, it’s the chemistry between Steve Coogan and Judi Dench that made this film really good, it also based on a true story and it has got some nice moment and it is well meaning, it didn’t really gel together and it could have been more inspirational and it can be too safe, despite that it still a well – made film.

Snowpiercer

In a future where a failed climate change experiment has killed all life except for the survivors who boarded the Snowpiercer (a train that travels around the globe), a new class system emerges. Everything about this film is nearly perfect as the story is brilliant and I love the idea to this film, the scenery look amazing and it certainly drawn you in from start to finish and this is really intriguing, the only thing is, it not quite character driven as it should be and mildly occasionally the violence can overshadowed the film itself, but this is an interesting film.

Black Beauty (2020)

A wild horse and a teenage girl forge an unbreakable bond which keeps them connected for a lifetime. Not for the most cynical type of person but this is heartfelt and it is sincere and you can connect to this, it also about finding yourself in this world and try to fitted in and I personally connect to that message, it is sad but it also an uplifting type of film and it is a beautiful film, the main lead is likeable and this is a pick me up type of film and this is a rainy-day type of film.

The Orphanage

A woman brings her family back to her childhood home, which used to be an orphanage for handicapped children. Before long her son starts to communicate with an invisible new friend. One of the most moving horror films and it has got a clever twist, it got no stupid CGI or SFX and this is real and honest. It got a brilliant story and this is totally unpredictable with stunning acting and this film will drawn you in from the first frame, it never get too overcomplicated and overall it is perfectly paced and it silently creep you underneath your skin, this is so intriguing.
