Article: Top 5 Timothy Spall Films

5.The King’s Speech

The story of King George VI, his impromptu ascension to the throne of the British Empire in 1936, and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch overcome his stammer. For me personally it’s the chemistry between Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush that really work, all the acting is amazing and especially Timothy Spall as Winston Churchill, it is one of those film that is a slow burner and it is uplifting by the end of this film, it also a fascinating watch as this is watchable.

4.Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street

The legendary tale of a barber who returns from wrongful imprisonment to 1840s London, bent on revenge for the rape and death of his wife, and resumes his trade while forming a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs Lovett. Firstly I know Timothy Spall have a smaller role in this film but this is definitely memorable, I really admire this film as it try to be something different and it certainly work, the chemistry between Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter is spot on, it might not be for everyone but the idea to this film is truly superb.

3.Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their third year of study, where they delve into the mystery surrounding an escaped prisoner who poses a dangerous threat to the young wizard. With memorable characters with the likes of Peter Pettigrew and Sirius Black, of all the Harry Potter film this is the best one in the series of these film, the pacing is perfect and the CGI/SFX is spectacular and eye catching at the same time, it also suitable for a rainy day type of film and this is pure escapism and it is entertaining.

2.Finding Your Feet

On the eve of retirement a middle class, judgmental snob discovers her husband has been having an affair with her best friend and is forced into exile with her bohemian sister who lives on an impoverished inner – city council estate. Likeable and a really cute film that will bring you a smile to people faces, it might be too predictable for some people and the acting is absolutely amazing plus this is a really nice film.

1.Early Man

Dug, along with sidekick Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth and his Bronze Age City to save their home. A film that is close to my heart as it got a cute message of never giving up and I can connect to that message, it is laugh out loud funny and the vocal in this film is spot on especially Timothy Spall, it is cute and charming plus this is likeable and it will made you smile, it also suitable for all ages and a family viewing type of film.

  1. Timothy Spall is a great actor. First saw him in Auf Wiedersehn Pet and he has never disappointed. We had the good fortune to see him perform live on stage in London once, and he gave a master class in acting.
He has made some great films with the Director Mike Leigh:
    Mr Turner about the artist
Topsy Turvy (1999) about Gilbert and Sullivan
    Secrets and Lies (1996)
    Life is Sweet (1990)
A couple of others I can recommend where he played real people are:
The Damned United – he played Peter Taylor to Michael Sheen’s Brian Clough
    Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman
