Mini Film Reviews Volume 125

If You Were The Last

Adrift in their broken – down space shuttle with little hope of rescue, two astronauts argue over whether they’re better off spending their remaining days as friends or something more. I admire this film that tries to be something different. The story is there with this film; these are the positives, unfortunately this feels like an TV made type of film, the laugh seems forced and it hasn’t got that emotional aspect; the pacing is off as well. I don’t want to be too harsh on this film as the idea is there, it just doesn’t work.

Peter Pan (2003)

In the early 1900s in London, the Darling siblings receive a visit from Peter Pan, who transports them to Never Never Land to help in a fight against the evil Captain Hook. Gorgeous looking film that will draw you in. The CGI/SFX is truly outstanding and eye catching, it lacks the charm and the villain itself not as memorable, it also falters just a little bit; it got some potential with the story itself, but unfortunately it doesn’t deliver.

Apex (2026)

A grieving woman seeks solace in the wilderness only to become ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a serial killer. Having watched this film I thought it was pretty good. The final third of this film is surprisingly moving, it has got stunning scenery; not as character driven as I wanted more with Taron Egerton character, it doesn’t quite gel or flow together as much; it lacks that psychological element, this isn’t a bad film as this is a well-made film.

Exterritorial

When a soldier’s son vanishes at a US consulate, she illegally remains on the premises to search for him, unknowingly entangling herself in a dangerous conspiracy. Fantastic action/thriller type of film. The flashback elements never get too overcomplicated and that is the key, it is nearly perfect but I just felt it falters just a little bit, the villain is perfectly sinister and totally memorable, I reckon this film will surprised many people.

The Devil Wears Prada

Andy, a smart but sensible young journalist, starts working as an assistant to the cynical high fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly. Keep believing in yourself and chasing your dream; that is the message of this film as this is relatable for people, the casting is perfect as they all convince in their roles, it doesn’t gel or flow together as much, it might not be for everyone but this is heartfelt.

The Wedding Banquet

A gay man makes a deal with his lesbian friend: a green – card marriage for him, in exchange for in vitro fertilization treatments for her. Plans evolve as Min’s grandmother surprises them with a Korean wedding banquet. Just breathtaking as this is real, honest and relatable film that will touch people heart. it is charming, funny and heartwarming film without being forced, you will care about with these characters, it might have a sensitive topic but this is perfectly watchable, it will leave you a lasting impression on you.
