Waking Ned

The lucky winner of the national lottery is Ned Devine; his fellow townsfolk attempt to claim the money. Gorgeous scenery with a simple and an easy-to-follow story. That is the only positives in this film; the laughs seems forced, it more bleak and depressing than being an uplifting film, I would say the balance of this film isn’t quite there; I don’t want to be too harsh on this film as it got some potential, the idea and the story are there; with these flaws this is a letdown film and that is a real shame.

Ladies First

A male chauvinist is transported to a matriarchal society, facing challenges from a formidable female version of himself. I admire this film that tries to be something different. It has got an all star cast as they all convince in their roles, it’s the film itself that lacks the charm as it is unfunny, I do like the message of gender and sexism; it could have been more inspirational and explore it a bit more, it feels a bit safe as well; underneath it all there is a wonderful story and the idea is there, for me personally it didn’t quite deliver.

6 Days (2017)

In April 1980, armed gunmen stormed the Iranian Embassy in Princess Gate, London and took all inside hostage. Over the next six days a tense standoff took place. Having watched this film I thought it was pretty good. The acting is totally believable and convincing, unfortunately the film itself seems rushed especially from the start, it lacks that psychological elements as well; it doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh, despite that this is well – made.

The Day After Tomorrow

When a sudden international storm plunges the planet into a new Ice Age, a palaeoclimatologist must make a daring trek to reach his son. Fantastic CGI/SFX that is realistic in this film. it has got amazing set pieces and it will draw you in, it never feels too action packed as this is a character driven film, it falters just a little bit but it recovers in time; the balance of this film is spot on, overall this is an impressive disaster film.

The Bride!

In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein ask Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change. Even if the film itself is rather brutal; if you get past that, this film is stand out as this is certainly memorable. The chemistry between the two stars is spot on, some of the film doesn’t quite gel together as much, it creeps you under your skin as it got that psychological elements; I reckon this film will surprised many people.

Zoo (2017)

Young Tom Hall and his misfit friends fight to save “Buster” the baby elephant during the German air raid bombings of Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1941. Don’t judge this film as this is silently powerful. It also shies away from the violence and that is refreshing, the casting is perfect and you will care about with these characters, it never feels forced or too sentimental as that is the key; this also a true story; it is perfectly watchable as it is an inoffensive film, it will touch people heart and it will leave you a lasting impression on you.

I saw Disclosure Day yesterday. I’d be intereted to read ahat you though about it, if you have seen it.
And the trailers included The Odyssey. Don’t know how faithful it will be to the original story, but it’s Christopher Nolan so it will be interesting.
