A Real Pain
Mismatched cousins reunite for a tour through Poland to honour their beloved grandmother, but their old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history. The idea and the story behind this film is superb. I also admire this film that tries to be something different, those are the positives; it not as uplifting or inspirational, I personally couldn’t get into with this film; it isn’t laugh out loud funny as occasionally it feel a bit forced; I don’t want to be too harsh on this film as it got some potential, for me personally it didn’t quite deliver and that is a real shame.
The Brave One
After a brutal attack which results in the death of her fiancé, Erica is traumatised. She decides to take the law into her own hands and track down the killers. For me personally it’s the acting that made this film good. The story and the idea behind this film is brilliant, it could be hard to watch for some people, I would say the violence can overshadowed the film just a little bit; the pacing is off especially the first half; it doesn’t offer you anything new and fresh as it can feel safe and too predictable, despite that this is intriguing.
The Last House
A family of four are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and must work together to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped. Gorgeous looking film from start to finish. The acting is convincing and totally believable, it lacks the psychological element and the midsection falters, it doesn’t explained the mythological aspect as much; the film itself rushed as it happening the first ten minutes, despite of these flaws the ending is superb.
Geostorm
The Dutch Boy Program staves off natural disasters but somehow a Geostorm is approaching many countries. Jake Lawson, a technology designer, is tasked with saving the world from this disaster. Epic style of film which is entertaining from start to finish. The CGI/SFX is truly outstanding, it is action packed but it never loses the story itself, the film does falters just a little bit, despite that it can be clever and thought provoking at the same time.
Eye In The Sky
Katherine, a British colonel, in charge of a state-of-the-art multinational operation to eliminate Al – Shabaab terrorists in Nairobi, Kenya, is in a dilemma when an innocent girl enters the kill zone. Unpredictable film with twist after twist throughout this film. The acting is believable and totally convincing, it might not gel or flow together as much, it will draw you in from the start, this is quietly powerful and it will move you.
The Whisper Man
A widowed crime writer who must team up with his estranged, retired detective father when a copycat serial killer abducts his young son. One of those film that will creep you under your skin. The film itself will draw you in from start to finish; the acting is believable as they all convince in their roles, it certainly memorable and the pacing is spot on, it nearly perfect but I just feel the film itself doesn’t quite gel; it got twist and turn throughout this film, once you watched this you will always remember this.
