Practical Magic

Two witch sisters, raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, face closed – minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love. The casting and the story are perfect. It has got stunning scenery that will draw you in, unfortunately it not as relatable and it doesn’t offer you anything new or fresh, this feels too safe and too predictable; it has got massive potential especially with an all-star cast; I don’t want to be too harsh on this film as the idea is there, for me it didn’t quite deliver.

Irena’s Vow

Caught in a German roundup to be used as a slave labourer, Polish nurse Irena Gut becomes a German army major’s housekeeper during World War II. Irena risks her life to conceal a dozen Jews within the major’s home. Could be hard to watch for some people. The acting is convincing and totally believable, those are the positives; but unfortunately it lacks that psychological element, it doesn’t gel or flow together as much; the pacing itself is slightly off, it might not be a perfect film but it still draws you in.

Fright Night (2011)

When a new neighbour moves in next door, a young man discovers that he is an ancient vampire who preys on the community. Perfectly paced film which certainly hold your interest. The CGI/SFX and the set pieces is truly outstanding, those are the positives; the balance of this film isn’t quite there, it also takes itself too seriously; the ending is weak as well but underneath it all there is a wonderful story, it might not be perfect but this is an eye-catching film.

The Truthers

Ruth returns to her hometown after her mother’s unexpected death and reconnects with her father, whose strange behaviour leads her to doubt the official story. Unpredictable film with twist after twist. It got that psychological element and the acting it totally believable, it is another film which has got a weak ending, it does falters in the midsection; it is a slow burner type of film which you needed to be patience, this is surprisingly good.

Frankenweenie

When a boy’s beloved dog passes away suddenly, he attempts to bring the animal back to life through a powerful science experiment. Too be honest with you I was surprised with this film. It is silently powerful and it will move you; it is certainly memorable from start to finish, the characters are great and relatable at the same time, the film itself doesn’t gel or flow together as much, if you wanted something different this is ideal for you.

Sleep (2023)

A young, expectant wife must figure out how to stop her husband’s nightmarish sleepwalking habits before he harms himself or his family. Once you watched this film you will always remember it. It got that psychological aspect which is important, it will creep you under your skin, it got twist after twist which is genuinely unpredictable; the ending will surprised you as it is silently powerful, it will leave you a lasting impression on you.
