Article: Top 20 Films That Should Not Be Remade

20. Sleepy Hollow

Constable Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of three people, with the culprit being the legendary apparition, The Headless Horseman. This film should not be remade because who would direct this and the tension and the gloomy setting. The casting is note perfect and would replace Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci, you actually care about the characters and if this being remade it just be typically teenager in a modern world, who get picked off like a standard horror movie. I love the setting of this film and it is unpredictable.

19.Burke & Hare

A black comedy about two nineteenth century grave robbers, who find a lucrative business deal involving dead bodies and murder townsfolks. This film would be Americanised with two American comedians who just focus on being silly, shouty and blood everywhere with constant genital joke. I do not want any of that because This film version of Burke & Hare is a British comedy romp with an all stars cast and generally funny.

18.United 93

A real time account of the events on United 93, one of the planes hijacked on September 11th, 2001 that crashed near Shanksville. All the crew and the passengers try to foil the terrorist plot. This a nerve shredding film with generally tension but if they going to remade this it will be a gung-ho action film with a male action star who just save everyone with every cliché and The End. You got to respect of those people that involving in the attack as it is a remembrance of their brave action.

17.From Hell

In Victorian era London, a troubled clairvoyant police detective name Fred Abberline investigates the murders of Jack the Ripper. This is a masterful suspense serial killer film with air of tension and if this being turn into a remake it just be blood galore with muddle of a plot and no one can replace Johnny Depp and Heather Graham, it will be set in a modern world with a massive twist and will be predictable as well. The thing with From Hell it is really unpredictable and a real sense of mystery.

15.Air Force One

Russian terrorist hijack Air Force One with the U.S president and his family on board, with the vice president negotiates from Washington DC. This is pure escapism with a charismatic Harrison Ford.

14.The Mask

Bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss find an ancient mask that transform him into a manic superhero named The Mask, so he decided to eliminate every gangster in the city. If this film being remade it will be a bog standard and a predictable tale and being safe as well.

13.Independence Day

The aliens are coming and their goal to invade and destroy Earth and all humankind around the world. Fighting superior technology, mankind’s best weapon is the will to survive. I totally love this film as you gradually getting to know the characters and the action suited in this well paced film, I reckon the remade version will be a Michael Bay type of film with wham, bang and wallop with no characters development. Ended with The End in a rush to finish the film.

A man on a bench talking to strangers about his past lives which involved the presidencies of Kennedy/Johnson, the event of Vietnam, Watergate and other historical event throughout his lives. In 1931 Paris, an orphan living in the walls of a train station gets wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton (mechanical man). This film is a beautiful and a curious tale of friendship with an all stars cast, If this film being remade they would cast the wrong person who play Hugo. They would rush this film with no sense of a mystery as well and being too predictable.

10.School Of Rock

After being kicked out of his rock band, guitarist Dewey Finn becomes a substitute teacher of an uptight elementary private school, only to try and turn his class into a rock band. This film is generally funny and uplifting at the same time and the acting is superb especially Jack Black. I do not want this to be remade because who would replace Jack Black and like a carbon copy of Kindergarten Cop with Arnie playing the banjo and that does not work whatsoever.

9.The Matrix

A computer hacker Thomas A. Johnson learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers. 6.Lemony Snicket’s – A Series Of Unfortunate Events

When a massive fire kills their parents, three children are delivered to the custody of cousin and actor Count Olaf, who is secretly plotting to steal their parents vast fortune.. This is a magical tale for all the family and generally funny as well and all the acting is superb especially the acting of the kids, I really like this film as it is eye catching and it gripped you from start to finish and it is enchanted and a nice story. 4.Paranormal Activity

A found footage film which focus on a young couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence. I am not normally a massive fan of demonic horror film but this one is come out of nowhere and chilled people to the bone, I really like this film as it is really tense and new and also fresh. If this film being remade there will be a lot of blood and typically teenagers in the house and becoming too predictable and becoming rubbish as well.

The Goonies are a group of friends living in a village discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate’s long – lost treasure. I always like this film since I grow up as it is a charming timeless story and the colourful characters that are likeable and you can connect with them. 2.The Breadwinner

In 2001, Afghanistan is under the control of the Taliban, when her father is captured a determined young girl disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for her family. I am not normally a massive fan of hand drawn animation but this one is heartfelt and an enchanted tale, the emotional core of this film it drawn you in from start to finish. If this film being remade it will not have the same impact as much and the message will be gone and who would cast as the people in this film as they might be slightly dull.

1.The Others

  1. Yes, another great list Mark. I haven’t seen some of them but I can comment on some of them. I have seen Sleepy Hollow, Burke and Hare, The Mask, Forrest Gump, School of Rock, Terminator, The Goonies, and The Breadwinner and I agree with you that I could not imagine these being remade with other actors or being altered in any way. Seeing Burke and Hare on the list reminded me of the play Doctor and the Devils by Dylan Thomas – I played Burke in a school play! I couldn’t believe it when I read that Julian Fellowes had written a script for a School of Rock stage musical – Downton Abbey meets Rock – No!
